Choices
Have you ever had a thought that seemingly came from nowhere? I have done that at times and then tried to trace my thoughts back to the original thought. This was one of those times.
I was sitting at McDonald's, eating my Asian Chicken Salad, which I must say was pretty tasty. I was sitting at a corner booth, facing the line of cars in the drive-thru lane when it hit me that all around me people have clearly made choices and the evidence of the results is apparent.
Here are some of my observances: A man who had a long pony tail reminded me that we have a choice of hair styles. He waved at me which drew my attention to the fact that he was driving a nice black car. (Sorry, sir, I am a woman and they are all just different colors to me!) That made me think about our choices of car styles, colors, power and accessories.
A girl pulled around with her head leaning over and her mouth moving(no one was in the car), then I realized that she was talking on a cell phone. Ah ha, more choices, Verizon, Cingular, U. S. Sprint??
Another car came through with a couple in it, so evidently together long enough to get tired of one another. That stirred in me the thoughts of our choices to be married or single, to relate to one or another.
There I sat eating that Asian Chicken Salad and I could have had a Big Mac!YUCKO!! OR, maybe a McRib, if only that store had CHOSEN to carry it at this time of year!
I was anticipating my trip to Curves in the evening and realized that I could have gone to Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, or I could have just gone back on my First Place diet. OH ME.....I am not really into this yet. I dread it. I dread the CHOICE to be sore! I know that it will hang on for a while until I gradually build my body up again.
As I pulled out of the parking lot, I realized I had to make a choice about Mobil, Shell or BP gasoline before my lack of choice left me sitting on the side of the road in a nice black car, enjoying the heat of the day.
I made my choice to get that black car cleaned up. I can just hear Bob saying, "Mike would have NEVER let that car get in that shape!" It was just that I had left the car outside the garage for a few hours one night and had watered flowers and splashed water all over it and it dried.
Oh yes, and there was the choice I made to let Millie ride in the car the one time when Maleah wanted her to come to her house. That choice produced quite a few dog hairs, even though I had carefully covered the entire back seat.
When I got to the carwash, I had a choice: would it be #1, an outside wash, #2 outside and inside, or #8 an outside, inside job WITH WAX! I chose #8 and dug out my money and there it was-the tip jar! Oh well, I chose to tip the kids and made my choice about how much.
Next door was the Christian Bookstore and I made a choice to go there and pick up a gift I had been meaning to pick up for a while. I had several choices of colors and styles but made it quickly.
I then saw that the monument company was right next door to the car wash and I still had not picked out a stone for Mike's grave. Was I ever astounded!!! The choices were numerous! Would it be black marble, red marble, flat, tall, slanted or even a bench? Would it be $900 or would it be $2500? I didn't make that choice yet.
I made my way to WalMart, where I chose a basket and began to wheel down the aisle of my choice. Should I get Wonder bread or WalMart brand or one of the many others?
I went to the cucumbers, there were burpless, hothouse and just the regular ones that were .78 each.
It was a trip of choices as I ended up spending $111.00 and then had to choose whether to use cash, check, credit or debit!
I got home and put up my groceries, choosing carefully exactly what spot to set each product. I made my decision to do a rotissere chicken for supper and started the procedure. I washed the bird thoroughly then rubbed it down with a Mesquite flavored rub that I had chosen from the many rubs and sauces they had available.
Do you see my point? EVERYWHERE WE TURN THERE IS ANOTHER CHOICE TO MAKE!!! Sometimes I just get tired of making choices but the alternatives are not exciting. Wouldn't you hate to be in a position where you had no choices.
I choose every morning if I want to start my day with the Lord or without Him. I choose if I want to read His Word or maybe another book. I choose if I want to talk to him and communicate my thanks and needs and just discuss my plans. The choices I make are so important and they do make a difference in my attitude for the day.
Jos 24:15 (KJV) "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Ah choices... if you remember "my shoulders"... Choices is what that was about. A reminder that there's always a right and a wrong choice that you can make. And to further that, if you know what the right choice is, and don't take it, it's sin. To me I thought that was something that was never going to change. It was black and white and something that would be applicable throughout your whole life.
Good observations though.
I've been reading the book - Lose It For Life. It's been encouraging me to make good choices about the foods that I eat. We really do have a lot of choices, don't we?
