Good Weekend Update
What a weekend! There was so much good to be observed that the fact that I am exhausted makes it well worth the trouble.
As I said yesterday, we did have 41 on the bus with 5 first time visitors. The visitors were three little girls I had visited a couple of weeks. One of the younger couples in our church moved next door to them and when I stopped by to see them they told me where the children were. I almost gave up because the parents were not there both times I visited. But, praise the Lord, I tried again and all parents were home and gave permission for them to ride. One of the little girls in the second grade got saved! I just pray that she can continue to come and be encouraged to make this relationship with Jesus very personal in her life.
Another visitor was a teen that rode with another of our teen girls. I was sorry to hear that she lives so close to our bus route but enough off the beaten track that we couldn't really afford to go get her. I told her there was another bus that might pick her up but she said she would just visit with her friend again so she could ride with her. I know that probably won't work but I will pray that the Lord works in her life.
The other visitor was a little guy that I am sure got on as a "crook"! I have seen him before. He is so cute but he is NOT 5 years old as his sister told me. When I questioned her she changed it to 4! My guess is that he is 3 but since our cut-off is 4, I suppose the little girl thought she needed to lie. We treated him like a 4 year old and he seemed to enjoy it.
I love talking to little kids. All you have to do is get some excitement in your voice and get down on their level and they are right there with you. Such was the case with Chandler. We had a deep talk about Monster Trucks!!LOL Thank goodness you don't have to know too much except they have BIG tires and they are LOUD!! He was a cutie and hopefully he will continue to come.
The 6th grade girl that threw her bible out the window last week was back. I was able to sit with her and talk calmly about it and assure her that I was praying for her. She was one of the three girls that got saved during church!!! Did it make her into an angel and change all her hyper ways????? I DON"T THINK SO!!!!! But,praise the Lord, I was able to tell her she wasn't alone anymore and though she would have to fight it, the Holy Spirit now lived in her and was there to help in her life. I explained that everywhere she went and everything she did, she would be taking Him with her. I explained that she could pray without ever opening her mouth and that He heard her. We discussed how that it would be hard but that God would help her overcome some of her hyperactivity if she wanted Him to help her. Now that is HOPE! She was very responsive and listened intently. I just pray that her salvation will mean everything to her.
The other little girl that got saved is a 5th grader. I noticed a house with a deck across the front one Sunday. The deck had a large group of children on there as they watched us backing down the street to let out a couple of our regulars. We waved and then I made a mental note to check on them the next Saturday. Sure enough I was able to sign up eight people from that one house, although only two of them came.
It is a situation where they are only there every other weekend. The next weekend I caught them was this past weekend. The little one that got saved assured me on Saturday that she couldn't wait to get on the bus. How humbling! I, too, remember when I couldn't wait to get to church.
The Veteran's Ministry is going well in our church. Bro. Hurtgen has a burden for those men and we have quite a few in church with us most every Sunday. Most of them are black and I love their expressive ways. Several of them have gotten saved and baptized and are so excited about it. It adds to the service greatly.
The young couple that got saved about a month ago are still coming most every service. Yesterday, the father had his brother in the service with him. It is very encouraging to see new christians as they begin to grow.
Mt 7:7 (KJV) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Lord, We are asking!! We want to see more. We want to see your blessings on our church. We want to see it growing and thriving in our community, a light for those hurting and seeking you. Thank You for letting us be a part of Your work in this place. Amen
