Snails & Slugs
This morning when I let Millie out for her morning run, I noticed a slimy slug going up the frame of the door---another one of God's creatures. They are very interesting if you stop and observe. Thanks to the remarkable internet, I was able to get some information about them.
Did you know that the difference between a snail and a slug is the fact that the snail carries it's house on it's back and that house grows with it. A snail may plug up his shell hole with mucous, which hardens and protects it from the weather and predators. A slug has the extreme amount of mucous that so easily leads us to them. They may wrap themselves in a thick coat of mucous for protection.
It was amusing to read that if a frog tries to eat a slug it will find that it's mouth is clogged with the sticky slime after a few chews.
Did you know that snails and slugs have both male and female parts. They may mate with another or themselves and produce offspring.
Did you know that snails and slugs are some of the only land animals in a group of animals called gastropods. These animals include not only clams, but oysters and squid also.
Did you know that in ancient days the color purple was derived from marine snails and used to make the clothing of Greece's warriors and the senators of Rome.
As I understand, the slug is an unsightly creature but feeds on mold and decayed vegetable matter. They are some of God's smallest garbage trucks!!!
Psalms 8:1 <> O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
